Renting Kiln in Delhi

Here we are in foggy Delhi. It’s really worse than one can imagine. Gone are the days of picnics in the parks of Delhi to celebrate the awesome winters. The only warmth now is from the Kiln firings.

Happy to have a one room studio space in Delhi also now. So now there is a Talking Clay in Delhi. An extension to our beautiful studio space in Dharmashala.

And we celebrate and share with Anubha (A fellow Delhi potter) our Kiln this weekend!

Monsoon Ceramics from the Himalayas

These are our latest creations.
Fresh out of our kiln in Dharamshala for this monsoon season!

We’ve enjoyed making sets this time. Sets of Cups/Mugs and Bowls.
You’ll see the standard sets of 6. And also sets of 2, where we have created different forms but glazed them similar.

Especially enjoyed creating details on some of the sets.
Some of them took the entire day to glaze a set of 6.

Ceramic Designers and Producers

Appreciate
Designers for being Designers
Producers for being Producers
Mixing the two as one person
Takes away from the
Possibilities
Imagination/Innovation
Gets confined if too much
Technique is involved
The mind starts to
Restrict Possibility
So Please
Appreciate
Designers for being Designers
Producers for being Producers

Snowfall – artistic & scientific

Glazed Stoneware Ceramic Bowl Set. Talc Deposits pooling together = Glaze not melted completely for some Or Snowfall near Christmas for some.

Sometimes we get so technical/scientific, that even our eyes betray us. Only ‘new eyes’ can see beauty/design.

Sometimes we get so caught-up in the aesthetics, that we get blocked and stay stuck without experimenting and breaking boundaries.

Have we as humans developed to a point/time of balancing these aspects of the scientific & the artistic?

Big Bang Theory is passĂ©. My all time favorite cartoon movie is not Tangled. It’s Shrek – part 1.

Cheers ! For this merry season. Snowfall !!

Talking Brand Consciousness – ‘Do you Pot?’

Brand Identity/Awareness/Consciousness. Talking Economic-Social-Political-Response-Ability. Participating at the 18th International Chawan Expo at the Todd Art Gallery, Middle Tennessee State University, TN, USA

Here’s a little about the Exhibit –

The INTERNATIONAL CHAWAN EXPO project, traveling exhibitions started in 2005. The project was started by Mr. Lou Smedts as an open non-profit platform for the known and unknown artists
who share the same passion, making and using of a Chawan (a tea cup used in the traditional eastern tea ceremonies).

Lou Smedts says –
“If I put all the facts together, the most important data of this project are the friendship and the cooperation amongst the participants, all have grown in many ways. I would not have imagined harmony and cohesion in the group, assuming that all artists are individualists. It is this friendship and cooperation that ads the greatest value and respect for the project worldwide. This has to be Zen.”

Reminded me of the little interaction with Zia Fariduddin Dagar at the end of a small intimate gathering in IHC many years ago. Thanks to my friend Arjun for having invited me for both these events.
