New students at the Talking Clay Studio last month. A lovely family of 6 visited the studio. A mix of Nepali and Swiss folk. Of varied age group. It was a first for the studio to welcome young people. 2 of the family are young and learnt the 3 basic handbuilding techniques – Moti (11) and Mary (15). It was absolutely delightful to show wheel work to Sabine and Khatri (Catharine). The 2 swiss sisters. They loved clay work and enjoyed finding a new activity to do together. They hope to learn further in Nepal/Switzerland. Here are some pics of the time we shared and their creations. You can see some of the work they are involved in in Nepal on their website www.himaal.org

On occasion attracting you,
Through their beauty, talking to you.
And also talking,
Speaking through their silence.
The 2 arcs and dot are representing the hands as they are positioned in meditation near the bellybutton. The practice of coming to the center.
And also of 2 hands (the arcs) and the dot (clay before it is thrown on the wheel. Endless possibilities. Potentality) – wheel work or centering on the wheel.
Ceramic Fest 2016 in New Delhi. We displayed paired tumblers and platters.
Glazed alike, these paired tumblers & tea cups maintain their uniqueness/individuality because of their different forms/shape.
This is one of my favorite topics to touch upon.
The universal which makes us all one and the same.
And the individuality which makes each of us special and different.

Very happy to have had Samira and Yannick over at Talking Clay Studio in Dharamshala for a week. Samira found us through Google, while looking for a place in the Himalayas where she could pot and her friend Yannick joined the 7 day beginners course.
It’s our first time welcoming people to the studio. We have always envisioned sharing this beautiful studio space and hope this is just the beginning of such happenings.
Here we are in foggy Delhi. It’s really worse than one can imagine. Gone are the days of picnics in the parks of Delhi to celebrate the awesome winters. The only warmth now is from the Kiln firings.
Happy to have a one room studio space in Delhi also now. So now there is a Talking Clay in Delhi. An extension to our beautiful studio space in Dharmashala.
And we celebrate and share with Anubha (A fellow Delhi potter) our Kiln this weekend!
